The holidays are a distant memory and the New Year is well underway. Maybe you’ve set goals for 2021 with the best of intentions, only to find yourself spinning your wheels. Whether your goal is to clean your closet or reinvent yourself, it’s simply a matter of breaking it down into manageable steps. Start by clearly identifying each step and writing it down. Now you've got a plan, so it's time to implement it. Sometimes the hardest part is taking that first step. Don’t wait until you’re good and ready, don’t wait for the stars to be in alignment. “Just do it.” This will jump-start the momentum and you’ll be on your way. If you’d like to make 2021 your best year yet, join me via Zoom for LIVING YOUR WISDOM: SIMPLE STRATEGIES FOR ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS AND DREAMS where you'll learn how to access your inner-wisdom and use it to guide you in the direction of your goals. You're wiser than you think, but sometimes, you forget what you know. You may find yourself 'falling back asleep' as you slip into old, habits and patterns that don't serve you. Maintaining deep and lasting change requires on-going effort. It's not always easy. Recently, I was asked "What advice would you give to help people achieve their goals in 2021?" The answer is simple: 1. Stay awake (conscious, aware) 2. Remember what you know (lessons learned, wisdom) 3. Apply what you know (wisdom) to your everyday life And speaking of wisdom, imagine finding a buried treasure right in your own back yard and all you have to do...is unearth it. In my 11/23/20 post, I highlighted the importance of not taking the ‘little stuff’ for granted. With COVID-19 surging across the country, it’s more important than ever to find sources of comfort and inspiration in both the big stuff and the little stuff. You can start by looking right outside your window. We all know that nature heals and rejuvenates. I started my day with a walk outdoors at 6:30 AM. Bundled up in layers, I headed out the door into 22 degrees, no big deal for a Chicago native. Braving the elements is invigorating and provides a sense of accomplishment. Except for the moon and a few stars accompanying me, I had the neighborhood to myself. The sun rose as I walked and when I headed east, I was greeted by a blue sky streaked with pinkish orange clouds. Is that a great way to start the day or what?! While COVID-19 requires us to stay home more, being outdoors is not prohibited. Humans are hard-wired to appreciate and thrive on nature’s beauty, so I challenge you to take a walk outdoors this week and rather than being in your head, be with your surroundings. Notice any thoughts or feelings that come up as you mindfully observe and take it all in. Let me know how it goes. If the stars and your schedule weren't in alignment for my last my workshop, the good news is.... IT'S BACK! The holiday season won’t be the same due to COVID-19, but while a pandemic is hardly something to be grateful for, even that cloud has a silver lining. People have come together in unprecedented ways to support each other and make the best of a difficult situation. Thanksgiving is all about gratitude, even in the worst of times. We’re all grateful for the obvious: good health, our families, etc. So in that spirit, I challenge you to take gratitude one step further by coming up with at least three things you currently take for granted that are worthy of gratitude, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. When I walk each morning, I’m grateful for the motorists who slow down to let me cross the street, even if it means catching a red light. The little stuff IS the big stuff. |
