![]() "You know you haven't stopped talking since I came here? You must have been vaccinated with a phonograph needle.” ~ Groucho Marx Raise your hand if you’ve ever been accused of talking too much…I see lots of hands. Now raise your hand if you’re a woman who's ever been accused of talking too much…Wow, I lost count! In the past, neuroscientists attributed this 'phenomenon' to differences between the male and female brain, speculating that the parts of the brain responsible for emotion and communication were larger or more highly developed in women than in men. Truth is, there is little if any difference between the male and female brain other than its size, which is relative to the difference in body size between males and females. It all boils down to nature/nurture i.e. how your genetic inheritance in combination with life experience (your environment) shapes your personality. So, what does it mean to talk too much? Is there any way to quantify it, or would others just prefer you talk less? If you’re been accused of talking too much, ask yourself, is the problem me or him/her? If you think your communication style could stand a few tweaks, make a list of things you would like to improve and then change your behavior accordingly. If you’re fine with it, then don’t allow someone else to cramp your style. Talk is cheap, but as long as you're being true to yourself and respectful of others, it’s all good. A Good Read: “Not Nice: Stop People Pleasing, Staying Silent, & Feeling Guilty…And Start Speaking Up, Saying No, Asking Boldly, and Unapologetically Being Yourself” by Dr. Aziz Gazipura Have you ever been accused of talking too much? How did it make you feel? What, if anything did you do about it? I’d love to hear your comments. ![]() Raise your hand if you're tired of New Year's resolutions. Raise your hand if you're tired of having ditched them by the beginning of February. Wow, that's a lot of hands... Instead of the same-old, same-old, try something new and different for 2022. Swap out those tired resolutions for an annual THEME at the beginning of each new year. Your theme is your vision of what you want your life to look like in the coming year. For what you want to manifest. It will guide your action steps in the direction of your goals. Your theme will motivate, inspire and challenge you to make necessary changes over the next twelve months. To learn more, check out my article This Year, Ditch the New Year's Resolutions and and Go for the THEME for more details and resources on how to make 2022 the year you finally get out of your own way and go for your Theme. "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" ~ Mary Oliver ![]() We all have regrets over a chance not taken, that lost opportunity or the one that got away. Taking risks and making changes, especially big changes can be scary, but if you're more inclined to step back rather than step up to the challenge of something better, it may be time to address this unhealthy pattern once and for all. The next time you're faced with the proverbial 'offer you can't refuse' or a relatively small risk with big potential, don't run away. Ask yourself, what's stopping me? Chances are you're grappling with the same set of stumbling blocks and faulty beliefs over and over again. Faulty beliefs about who you are, what you're capable of and your ability to succeed. To learn more about what gets in the way of your potential and how to overcome it, check out my October 20th Newsletter, "Coulda - Shoulda - Woulda...Didn't!'
